The Amwaj Islands Development is situated northeast of Muharraq Island. The five major and four minor bridges to be constructed as part of this project are to provide general vehicular access between the islands of the development as well as within the marina/floating city.
The bridges comprise the following :
• BR1 : 1 No 100m long (5x20m spans) comprising 2 carriageways • BR2‐5 : 4 No 60m long (3x20m spans) single carriageway.
• MB1‐4 : 4 No 10m arched canal bridges.
The works for the major bridges (BR1‐5) comprise the following activities :
• Filling for access requirements.
• Piling (bored reinforced concrete piles).
• Reinforced concrete pile caps and bridge substructures .
• Precast pretensioned bridge beams.
• Temporary formwork to insitu deck slab.
• Cast insitu reinforced concrete bridge deck slabs.
• Parapets, sidewalks and service tunnels.
• Waterproofing and asphalting.
• Abutment wing walls and approach slabs.
• Channel dredging
• Scour protection and stone pitching.
